Aldabraensis Neon (Pseudochromis Aldabraensis), the Orange Dottyback, Neon Dottyback or Arabian Dottyback, is a species of ray-finned fish from the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks.

The Aldabraensis Neon is yellow-orange with one iridescent blue stripe running from the snout to the tail fin and another from the upper jaw to the gill cover. They also have blue accents on the tail, dorsal fin and gill cover. The species grows to a maximum size of around 4”.

A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with hiding places should be provided. It should be housed with moderately aggressive larger fish. It may eat ornamental shrimp, but makes an excellent predator of bristleworms in the reef aquarium. They prefer to stay at the bottom of the tank. The Neon Dottyback, like most Dottybacks are known for jumping, so a tightly sealed lid is suggested to prevent jumping from the tank.

They’re territorial and defend their preferred area fiercely, even in larger aquariums and against tankmates much larger than themselves. Consider larger fish instead and avoid similar species, like other dottybacks and wrasses. They are best kept with tangs, large damselfish, hawkfish, angelfish, squirrels, parrots and other large fish that are not bullied easily. Neon Dottyback is useful for removing fireworms.

Aldabraensis Neon is known to spawn in captivity. However, it is difficult to determine the gender, as they are difficult to distinguish from each other.

They are carnivorous and they will appreciate daily feedings of common frozen aquarium fish foods such as mysis and brine shrimp. Most neon dottybacks will also accept dry commercial aquarium fish flakes and pellets without issue.
