The Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish (Hemitaurichthys Polylepis) is also known as the Yellow Zoster Butterflyfish, and occurs in large numbers among the reefs of the Indian Ocean.

The fins are yellow in color, and the body is mostly white. The white coloration forms a triangle with the yellow fins, lending it its common name. The head area is black helping these fish camouflage themselves in the wild. Maximum length for this species is right around 7 inches.

The ideal aquarium will be at least 125 gallons and will contain plenty of live rock that will provide hiding places, and a supplemental food source. The Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish is quite shy at first, and should be provided multiple hiding places.

They may be kept singly, in pairs or small numbers. Like most butterflies, these fish are peaceful and will do best housed with peaceful tank mates. If kept with overly aggressive species, this butterfly will likely stay in hiding and miss out at mealtimes. If moderately assertive species are to share the same tank, introduce the butterflyfish first so it can get well established and settled in before any competition arrives. If underfed the Yellow Pyramid Butterfly may occasionally pick at Xenia or other soft corals. The Pyramid Butterfly feeds upon plankton in the wild, and is safe for reef aquariums.

Offer a variety of tiny and small frozen foods, in small amounts several times per day e.g. plankton, baby brineshrimp, vitamin-enriched brineshrimp, Mysis shrimp and finely chopped krill. Feeding several times daily is recommended.
