The Black Percula Clownfish (Amphiprion Percula), also known as the Black Perc, Black Percula Clown Anemonefish, or Black and White False Percula Clown.

The Black and White Ocellaris Clownfish is very distinctive with its jet-black body and three white stripes on each side. As Juveniles these clownfish begin life donning an orange or umber coloration, as they mature they will begin to darken to their adult coloration. These clownfish grow to a maximum size of 3 inches in the aquarium, and may be kept singly or in groups. They are very hardy and are perfect for the novice or seasoned aquarist.

The Black  Percula Clownfish requires an aquarium of 30 gallons plus with plenty of live rock. Always be sure that your aquarium and lighting system will support the needs of the host anemone before incorporating one into the aquarium.

They are social and peaceful with other species and can even be kept in a school if the tank is large enough, though they may become aggressive towards other genus of clownfish. However, they can peacefully coexist with a few different fish types that share a similar habitat at night such as damselfish or some gobies. Clownfish are reef safe and can be kept with non aggressive invertebrates and corals, and most clowns will host an anemone present in the tank.

Clownfish are easy to breed in the home aquarium. The females will be the largest of the pair, and two fish will usually stay close to each other in the aquarium.

Clownfish are omnivores, requiring both meaty foods as well as some greens in their diet. Diet should include a variety of frozen and live mysis and brine shrimp as well as spirulina, marine algae, nori, and algae based foods, 2-3 times daily.
