The Redspotted Blenny (Istiblennius Chrysospilos) is also known as the Orange Spotted Blenny or Redspotted Rockskipper. It belongs to the family Blenniidae, the combtooth blennies.
The Redspotted Rockskipper can reach a length of roughly 10 cm / 4 in. The body is red and white with bright blue and orange or reddish spots, hence the common names red-spotted / orange-spotted rockskipper.
It will do well in a 30 gallon or larger aquarium in a well-established reef system with plenty of rock work. Can be maintained in either fish-only or reef aquariums having rocky areas with caves to hide in when needing to do so, and if feasible, containing heavy growths of microalgae that it can dine on.In fact, quite a few aquarists keep the Redspotted Blenny to control micro-algae in their reef aquariums.
They’re hardy and might be housed with different peaceable fish in a reef tank setting, however, could turn into territorial in direction of different blennies, gobies, or dartfish in smaller tanks. Keep only one per tank unless you have a mated pair. The Redspotted Blenny is considered reef compatible with caution, because it can nip at stony coral polyps and clam mantles.
A diet providing marine and blue-green algae (Spirulina) will help the Orange Spotted Blenny thrive, along with other vegetable matter including frozen and dried foods for herbivores. It should be fed as often as necessary to maintain its health.
