The Arrow Crab, scientific name Stenorhynchus Seticornis, also known as the Yellow Arrow Crab is aptly named for its body shape. They normally inhabit portions of the reef usually associated with a small cave or crevice.

A long, slender body and eight enormously long legs (up to three times its body length) are its most obvious characteristics. Colouration is variable in this species; the body may be golden, yellow or cream, marked with brown, black or iridescent-blue lines; the legs are reddish or yellow, and the claws are blue or violet. Arrowhead crabs can grow as large as six inches, so they are ideally suited for medium or large tanks.

It is a hardy, long-lived invertebrate, that can be housed in the reef aquarium. Be sure your aquarium has lots of rockwork with suitable crevices and holes for the crab to hide in.

This crab has been known to attack crustaceans such as Banded Coral Shrimp, and may even attack small slow moving fish. All crabs are opportunistic feeders and if insufficient food is present they may pick at mushrooms or polyps searching for food. However, Arrow Crabs may provide the beneficial service of eating smaller Bristle Worms which some consider pests.

Breeding Arrow Crabs in the aquarium is not generally successful.

It will accept almost all meaty, flake and tablet foods.
