The Balteatus Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Balteatus) also known as Girdled Fairy Wrasse, also known as the Lancetail Fairy Wrasse, has a distinctive pattern of colors.

Its belly is white, while the remainder of its body varies from purple to pink to a greenish-yellow color. It has a patch of pink on each side, as well. The male and female of this species are very similarly colored, but when courting, the male will display increased color intensity. Colors may vary depending on the fish's mood.

The Balteatus Fairy Wrasse is a very peaceful, active fish that will bring both color and activity to a fish-only or reef aquarium of 75 gallons or larger. Balteatus Fairy Wrasses do the best with kept in tanks with lots of live rock for them to pick at small inverts between feedings. Wrasses are known to jump from aquariums. Be sure to have some sort of covering with no large open holes that they can escape from.

Balteatus Fairy Wrasses are very peaceful fish and can be kept with all fish, inverts and corals found in reef tanks. Girdled Fairy Wrasses can even be kept with members of their own species without aggression issues. It is recommended that you don’t keep multiple male Balteatus Fairy Wrasses together though. A single male can be kept with a group of females that are introduced prior to or at the same time as the male.

Balteatus Fairy Wrasses are carnivores and need a diet that is rich in meaty foods. They do best with a varied diet of frozen meaty foods and marine pellets. Feeding them multiple times a day is recommended since they are very active.
