The Camel Shrimp (Rhynchocinetes Durbanensis) is also known as the Hinge-beak Shrimp, Dancing Shrimp, or Candy Shrimp. This type of shrimp also has a distinctive body hump that distinguishes them from mint shrimp. This hump resembles that of a camel and has given them the name "Camel Shrimp".

It is distinguished by a moveable rostrum (beak) that is usually angled upwards. The Camel Shrimp has a variable pattern of red and white stripes on its body. The males of its species tend to have larger chelipeds (claws) than the females. The Camel Shrimp can grow up to 5 – 6 cm in length (between 1.5 and 2.4 inches).

It prefers to congregate with other shrimp of its kind in rock crevasses, under overhangs, or in the coral rubble. It especially needs hiding places when it is molting. It usually tolerates other shrimp, but may nip at colonial anemones, disc anemones, and soft leather corals. It generally leaves bubble coral and stinging anemones alone.

Camel Shrimp have a calm disposition, making them perfect for keeping with other types of sea creatures in your aquarium. They are not aggressive and can peacefully coexist with any other inhabitants.

The diet of the Camel Shrimp makes it an excellent choice for your home aquarium because they will eat almost anything and everything given to them. This species is an omnivore. The Camel Shrimp will accept brine shrimp, frozen or freeze-dried plankton, and flaked food.
