The Crescent Tail Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Lunatus), or crescent tail fairy wrasse is an elegant fish with a crescent tailed moniker.
A flashing terminal male of this species is quite the sight to behold. Vivid yellows and oranges on the body fade into inky black and blue finnage with reddish-gold highlights, all while electrified by a set of actinic lines which run longitudinally along the body. Female and male patterns and colors are basically the same except that females' will not be as bright. They have a small adult size of 3" which is another reason why they are so desirable.
The Lunate Fairy Wrasse will thrive in either a fish-only or reef aquarium of 50 gallons or larger. It needs a shaded area away from the bright lights. They will thrive best in a well-equipped aquarium with live rocks cleverly placed as hiding places. These wrasse like to jump, so a tight-fitting canopy is recommended.
They are for the most part very peaceful, but in some cases can be aggressive to closely related species. Add the largest males last, if one wants to keep multiple species together. This species functions best as a pair (one male, one female), or one male with several females. They will not bother corals or invertebrates, making them an ideal fish for the reef aquarium.
The Lunate Fairy Wrasse diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods along with a high-quality marine flake and marine pellet food. Feeding them multiple times a day is recommended since they are very active.
