The White Tail Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus Flavicauda)  hails from the pristine waters of Tahiti in the South Pacific.

This spectacular fish boasts a vibrant red body with orange spots on its head streaming into lines along the body, contrasting sharply against a creamy white tail. The outer part of the eye is ringed in bright yellow. Ctenochaetus Tangs have a protruding mouth with bristle-like teeth they can move individually in order to sift, sort, and scrape in search of food.

The White Tail Bristletooth can reach 7 inches in length and requires at least a 100 gallon aquarium. Best maintained in well-established reef or fish-only aquariums having wide-open swimming areas and rocky crevices to seek shelter if needing to, and preferably with copious amounts of microalgae.

White Tail Bristletooth Tang are pretty much peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tanks. This makes them a great addition to reef tanks. White Tail Yellow Eye Tangs can be aggressive towards other tangs though, especially those in the Ctenochaetus family. To try to reduce aggression between tangs, try to introduce them all at the same time and make sure that there is plenty of algae for them to graze on.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least 3 times per week. These are great fish for controlling algae in the saltwater fish or reef aquarium.
