The Flameback Angelfish (Centropyge Acanthops), also known as the African Pygmy Angelfish or Dwarf Flameback Angelfish, is part of the Pomacanthidae family of Angelfish originating from Africa.
The Flameback Angelfish has striking contrasts of blue and orange-yellow colors. While the body is predominately blue, there is a broad and bright orange to yellow swatch from the head along the back to the tip of the dorsal fin. The caudal fin is yellow and slightly translucent. Has spines over their gills, use caution when catching to avoid entangling the angel in a net
The Flameback Angelfish requires a minimum of a 55 gallon tank with lots of hiding places and live rock for grazing. It is important to provide your Flameback with plenty of quality cured live rock and great aquascape, such as caves, archways and overhangs to hide and swim through.
It is semi-aggressive and will defend their territory, but usually will not bother other tank mates. They are well suited in reef-tanks, however, caution should be exercised in adding them to tanks with meaty brain corals such as Cynarina spp. and Trachyphyllia spp.
The diet of the Flameback Angelfish should include Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty foods.
