Hector's Goby (Koumansetta Hector) is a species of goby native to the Indian Ocean (including the Red Sea) to the islands of Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean.

The Hector's Goby has a bluish-black body with bright yellow horizontal stripes and an eye spot on the dorsal fin. This attractive little fish measures only 2” at maturity and spends its time hovering over rocks and substrates out in the open water column.

A 20 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of hiding places is suitable for this fish. When startled or threatened, they have been known to jump out of uncovered aquariums. Always keep the tank covered and provide plenty of hiding places for this fish to retreat to.

They are hardy and very peaceful and can be housed with other peaceful fish in a reef tank setting, but may become territorial towards other blennies, gobies or dartfish in smaller tanks. Gobies tend to stay mainly towards the bottom of the tank, burrowing and sifting through the sand. It can be included in a reef aquarium and the fish will sift the sand as well as graze on hair algae. It is non-aggressive towards other fish and will not bother invertebrates in the tank. Should not be housed with aggressive or fin-nipping fishes, such as groupers, dottybacks, triggerfishes or angelfishes.

As to diet, should be fed a diet of finely chopped fresh or frozen meaty foods, e.g., krill, marine fish flesh, mysis shrimp, shrimp, scallops, squid, clams and algae containing foods, especially Spirulina, and be fed twice daily.
