The Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish, Premnas Biaculeatus, is a designer variant of the Gold Stripe Maroon, featuring a brilliant gold body with a maroon face and fins. Like all gold stripe maroons, the stripes will appear white and turn to gold as they mature, in this case it is the white of the entire body. Captive-bred clownfish are very hardy and durable fish making them a perfect addition for the novice or seasoned aquarist. The Maroon Clownfish is a good candidate for a reef aquarium.

It is usually best to keep one Clownfish per 30 gallon aquarium, although it is sometimes possible to keep a pair if one is significantly smaller than the other or about the same size when added as juveniles. One fish will develop into a female and become larger in size while the other (or others, in large tanks) will remain male. As the fish mature, they may also become aggressive towards new arrivals (or hands in the tank), so be prepared for aggression to follow even if the new fish is large in size. They are social so they can be kept in a school if the tank is large enough, but are known to be a little more aggressive than most clownfish and will become aggressive towards other genus of clownfish. Clownfish are reef safe and can be kept with peaceful invertebrates and corals, and most clowns will host an anemone present in the tank.

Though the interaction between anemones and clownfish is amusing to watch, it is not necessary to the survival of either animal. Some Clownfish will only host in specific anemones and vice versa. A host anemone should generally have a diameter of at least twice the length of the clownfish when introduced together. Tankraised fish can also be less likely to use a host anemone than wild-caught fish.

The Gold Nugget Maroon Clownfish diet consists of almost any meaty food items and herbivore preparations.
