The Yellow Goatfish (Parupeneus Cyclostoma) is also referred to as the Yellowsaddle Goatfish, or Goldsaddle Goatfish.
The fish has a slightly elongated body and a deeply forked tail. It is a solid golden-yellow color from head to tail. These hardy characters introduce energetic activity to the aquarium bottom as they actively patrol the sand bed to satisfy their appetites, making them a unique addition to your aquarium.
An established 180 gallon or larger aquarium with large areas to swim, and rockwork with a few hiding places is recommended. The young Yellow Goatfish may sift the sandy bottom of the aquarium in search of invertebrates to eat so a moderate substrate layer is a must.
Overall, goatfishes are peaceful in nature and can be kept with anything that won’t act aggressively toward them or keep them from getting enough food at feeding time. However, they should not be kept with any fish small enough to eat. Goatfishes are considered reef-safe in the sense that they won’t harm or eat corals and such, but they will eat many other things that are often found in reef aquariums. In fact, a goatfish in an aquarium will typically eat anything that’s meaty and will fit in its mouth.
Feed small amounts several times per day – this is of particular importance for young specimens. Offer a variety of meaty items, such as krill, prawns, chopped squid, mussel, cockle, scallops, clam meat, etc. Goatfish have a high metabolism and should be fed four to five times daily.
