The Flame Angelfish (Centropyge Loricula) is a marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae. Other common names include Flame Angel, Flaming Angelfish and Japanese Pygmy Angelfish.

The Flame Angelfish is a flashy addition to many aquariums. One of the most popular of the dwarf angelfish, the Flame Angelfish is a bold red/orange color with vertical black stripes highlighting the body and horizontal black stripes along the caudal portions of the blue-tipped dorsal and anal fins.

The Flame Angelfish requires at least a 70-gallon aquarium with lots of hiding places and live rock for grazing. It also does best when provided with a mature system with plenty of algae and healthy micro crustacean populations.

The Flame Angelfish is somewhat aggressive, which means you also have to avoid any peaceful species and any overly aggressive species. The Flame Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals, sessile invertebrates, and clam mantles. If the Flame Angelfish is to be added to a peaceful community, it should be the last fish introduced. Aggressive and territorial with conspecifics. Males will fight to the death. Can often be maintained in pairs or harems. 

The Flame Angelfish is hermaphroditic, very difficult to breed in an aquarium, and has no distinguishable differences in color between male to female.

The diet of angels generally consists of meaty foods and algae. They can be fed a variety of frozen items like formulas, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, scallops and others, as well as pellets, flakes, algae sheets and other foods.
