Very common on the Great Barrier Reef, the Coral Beauty Angelfish (Centropyge Bispinosa) is also known as the Twospined or Dusky Angelfish. The Coral Beauty Angelfish is a very popular saltwater fish among all hobbyist aquarists, because of its beautiful colors and hardiness.
The Coral Beauty Angelfish has a basic dark purplish-blue body. This is marked with irregular orange vertical bars on its flanks. The dorsal, caudal and anal fins have a bright blue margin. While they will only grow to a maximum size of about 4 inches in length, they are most healthy when allowed significant room to swim and forage.
The minimum tank size for the Coral Beauty Angelfish is 70-gallons. It is also important to make sure that you have plenty of rock with hiding spots so that they are more comfortable in your tank. Moderate to dim lighting is favored by them and it also helps algae to grow continuously. You should definitely be keeping Coral Beauties in tanks with live rock as well. These dwarf angelfish constantly graze the live rock looking for anything they can eat.
If you would like to keep more than one per tank, be sure to have a large enough aquarium and introduce them at the same time, to limit territorial aggression. They do not live well with other Angelfish otherwise. Coral Beauty Angelfish are reef safe: with caution. As long as you’re providing them with plenty of variety in the form of macro algae plus a standard prepared food blend, they should leave your corals alone.
They are protogynous hermaphrodites and the most dominant of the females in a group will change sex to become male if the existing male dies or disappears. All coral beauties are born female, but larger fish later become male.
The Coral Beauty Angelfish is an omnivore, meaning they’ll largely accept most plant- and meat-based foods. The diet of the Coral Beauty Angelfish should consist of Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other quality meaty foods.
