Xanthichthys Caeruleolineatus is one of the rarest Triggerfish in the trade, and also ranks high on the list for some of the biggest Triggers. The Triggerfish gets its name from its beautiful golden back.
The Goldenback Triggerfish (Xanthichthys Caeruleolineatus) with its unique yellow-brown and white coloration and blue stripes is a true gem for any saltwater aquarium enthusiast. Male and females may exhibit color differences.
Goldenback Triggers reach a maximum adult size of around 14 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 200 gallons. Goldenback Triggerfish will do best in tanks with lots of open swimming room since they are such strong swimmers. Goldenback Triggers also like to be kept in tanks with lots of live rock in them.
Goldenback Triggerfish are very peaceful for a triggerfish and shouldn't attack many other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Goldenback Triggers might go after smaller fish and some inverts, so only add one to your reef tank with caution.
Goldenback Triggerfish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods, high quality pellet and flake foods as well as chunks of fresh seafood will keep your Goldenback Triggerfish healthy and happy. It's a good idea to feed your Goldenback Trigger food with hard shells that will keep their teeth ground down.
