Neoglyphidodon Oxyodon, the Neon Velvet Damselfish is a species of damselfish in the family Pomacentridae. The common names that are mostly used for this species are Bluestreak Damselfish, Blue-Streak Damselfish, Bluevelvet Damselfish, Javanese Damselfish, Java Damselfish, and Bluebanded Damselfish.
The adults can grow up to a maximum size of 15 centimetres (5.9 in). Juveniles and adults have different coloration. Adults of this species are grayish black. Juveniles are dark blue with a light yellow stripe or spot and blue streaks that fade with age.
An aquarium of 30 gallons or more is required. Provide plenty of hiding and swimming space for these fish.
They are not recommended for reef aquariums where they will share space with peaceful reef inhabitants. Likely to exhibit territorial behaviour toward certain other Damselfish species in addition to conspecifics, and compete vigorously with other Damselfishes and Clownfishes for aquarium real estate. These fish make excellent companions for aggressive tankmates with other damselfish, dottybacks, angelfish and puffers. May harass certain smaller, peaceful fishes - some individuals may live alongside Gobies and Blennies, but it is wise to provide alternative housing for either the Damselfish or the Gobies/Blennies if the attempted cohabitation fails.
Neoglyphidodon Oxyodon is an omnivorous species of damselfish. Damselfish will accept just about any type of marine based diet you offer them. Feed a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, raw shrimp, silversides, flake, pellet and other commercially prepared foods. Offer enriched foods to enhance keep color from fading.
