Popeye Catalufa (Pristigenys Serrula), also known as the Bigeye Soldierfish Found in the Eastern Pacific from Oregon to Chile.
This fish has an overall dusky orange to red colour with white markings. The dorsal fin appears feathery while rest of fins have black margins. The body of the fish is compressiform, deep and robust, with large eyes that are around a third of the length of the head. The species has an upward projecting mouth. The most noticeable trait that gets this fish aquarium attention is its bright red iris, body, and darkly detailed tail and fins. This species is nocturnal and shy , preferring deeper waters off islands. It grows to a size of 34 centimetres (14 in) in length.
A 100 gallon or larger aquarium with generous amounts of live rock, hiding places, and swimming room provides a good environment.
It will do well with others of its own species as long as there are adequate hiding locations and plenty of space. They can be kept as individuals, but are more secure in groups, and should be kept that way if the tank is large enough. They will not bother corals, but will eat small fish, shrimp, and other invertebrates they come across.
Popeye Catalufa Soldierfish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. The diet should vary between live feeder shrimps, freeze-dried shrimps, chopped marine meats.
