Blackfin Dartfish (Ptereleotris Evides), the Scissortail Dartfish, is a species of dartfish native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.
The Ptereleotris Evides has a white head and blue body with large dorsal and anal fins. Light colored at the front of the body and darker at the rear. They have a distinctive hovering pose with their tail and dorsal fins extended. Blackfin Dartfish can grow up to 14 cm what is approximately 5 inches.
It should be housed in a 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of loose coral rubble, and a tight-fitting lid to prevent it from jumping out of the tank. All Dartfish need hiding places where they can withdraw to when feeling threatened. They do not normally naturally dig their own holes, but use ones made by other creatures. After first introducing a Dartfish, it is advizable to dim the light, so it can get used to the tank in peace.
It will rarely become aggressive towards other fish, but is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair. Should not be housed with aggressive fishes such as groupers, dottybacks, triggerfishes or aggressive angelfishes. They can easily feel threatened by larger more aggressive fish with the result that they cannot feed enough and die by lack of food.
This fish requires feeding several times a day, especially when newly added. When the fish can find its natural food in the aquarium it requires less frequent feeding. The Scissortail Goby diet should include chopped or shaved seafood, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp.
