Blackbar Filefish (Pervagor Janthinosoma) commonly referred to as Ear-spot Filefish, Gill-blotch Leatherjacket, Redtail Leatherjacket, Red-tailed Leatherjacket.
The Blackbar Filefish is a beautiful, relatively small (13-15 cm) filefish with a bright red tail that highly contrasts it drab olive body. Black bar above pectoral base. They are often used to fight glass anemones (Aiptasia) and Majano anemones.
A shy species uncommon on coral reefs at any depth. It is best to keep it in a tank of 20 gallons or bigger along with plenty of swimming space. The Blackbar Filefish also needs lot of hiding place in the aquarium, so that it can hide when frightened.
The Blackbar Filefish might turn aggressive towards other filefish and should be kept singly or in truly mated pair. Blackbar Filefish are generally unsafe for reefs and will gnaw on corals, polyps, crabs and other invertebrates.
Because Pervagor Janthinosoma are omnivores, they can essentially be fed any foods regularly offered to the trade for herbivorous and carnivorous fish. Also, because they are omnivores, try to make sure a well-varied diet is provided; repeatedly offering the same foods should be strictly avoided. Its diet should include shaved shrimp, squid, scallop, mysis shrimp, and especially vitamin enriched foods that help in maintaining the color of the body.
