Singapore Angelfish is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a marine angelfish belonging to the family Pomacanthidae. The Singapore Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus Mesoleucus), also known as the Vermiculated Angelfish, has been likened to a butterflyfish in body structure.
Chaetodontoplus Mesoleucus has blue lips contrasting with its yellow face. There is a black vertical band which runs through the eye. The body has a cinereous area to the rear of the head this shades into a more sizeable black area, which is marked all over with a pattern of yellow speckling. The caudal fin is yellow and the dorsal and anal fins have a vivid blue margin.
Due to the increased level of care required for this particular species it has been designated as "Difficult". Some acclimate well, while others may hide and not eat. Providing a quietly-located aquarium with non-aggressive tank mates and plenty of hiding places may help. A minimum of a 120 gallon tank or larger provided with live rock for grazing will also help provide an optimal environment.
The Singapore Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. The only species it tends to bully are other butterflyfishes of similar coloration.
The Singapore Angelfish is hermaphroditic, difficult to breed, and does not have distinguishable variations in color between male and female.
The Singapore Angelfish are omnivores that feed primarily on benthic algae and seaweed but is also observed to feed on sponges, tunicates, and filamentous algae. Diet should include a variety of spirulina, marine algae, high quality angelfish preparations, mysis and brine shrimp, 3 times daily.
