The Swalesi Basslet, Liopropoma Swalesi, is a very attractive fish which is hardy and a perfect, calm-mannered citizen of reef aquariums.
Swales Swissguard Basslet have a long slender body that is mostly orange with long horizontal white stripes. The Liopropoma Swalesi also have two large black eye spots on their fins. The dorsal and caudal fins rimmed in blue or purple with large black spots.
Swales Swissguard Basslets reach a maximum adult size of around 3 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 10 gallons in size. They tend to do better in a rocky bottom tank with lots of hiding spots.
Swales Swissguard Basslets are pretty peaceful fish and will not bother other fish, coral or inverts found in reef tanks. Swales Swissguard Basslets will only sometimes go after smaller shrimp.
It is difficult to distinguish between male and female Swales Basslet visually. There is limited information on the breeding and spawning of Swales Basslet in captivity. They are known to be protogynous hermaphrodites, where females can turn into males in the absence of a male in the group.
As a carnivore, the Swales Swissguard Basslet will thrive on a diet of meaty foods including marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysis shrimp, and quality frozen preparations. It should be fed at least twice in a day for its continued good health.
